What is the Millennium Challenge Account - Malawi?
The Millennium Challenge Account – Malawi (MCA-M) was established in March 2008 by the Government of Malawi. This followed Malawi’s qualification in December 2007 for Compact Assistance from the Challenge Corporation (MCC, http://www.mcc.gov/) , a US Government foreign aid agency.
The MCA-M has various activities that will lead to the development of a Compact that will provide investments for various projects that will stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty in the country.
The Minister of Finance Honourable Ken Kandodo says government is very keen to restore the financial health of ESCOM, and rebuild it into a financially strong and well managed company in order to ensure sustainable economic growth in Malawi.
Honourable Ken Kandodo was speaking during high-level consultations with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) team that was in the country from 9 to 13 May, 2011 to discuss pre- implementation planning for the Malawi Compact.
